Teaching Staff
Job description
We are looking for a dynamic, inspirational and academically-driven teacher to join our thriving English Department. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Akademeia High School community, which is already a well-established international school in its seventh year of operation. The school boasts a vibrant academic environment with fantastic faculty members and a supportive administrative team.
About Akademeia:
Akademeia High School is an academically-selective school in Warsaw, offering IGCSEs and A Levels alongside Akademeia Assessed Courses. The majority of our students are preparing to study at either Oxbridge or the Ivy League, or at Russell group universities, as well as internationally acclaimed architecture, art and music schools. With a rigorous admissions process and A Level classes taught in the form of undergraduate seminars, the school pursues a pre-university university model. The school offers a robust scholarship programme, with 10% of places allocated to merit-based, partial and full scholarships. Together with Akademeia High School Foundation, the school also supports several educational outreach and community engagement initiatives.
About the job:
You will teach English Literature and Language to students aged 14-18, across a range of English courses at IGCSE and A Level.
Working collaboratively with other members of the English Department, you will be involved in the planning and delivery of a range of our curricula throughout a given academic session.
You will also support students in the planning and delivery of major pieces of work, such as external coursework, as well as developing their wider essay and transactional writing skills.
In tandem with the wider department, you will take an active role in promoting and encouraging the development of literacy throughout the school, both by personal example and through community-engagement projects conducted with students.
Wherever possible, you will seek to collaborate with related departments, such as Drama, to enrich students’ understanding and appreciation of a wide range of literary genres.
You will be involved in the promotion of literature-related activities to the wider school community, such as raising awareness of the school’s reading resources, as well as supervising students in their familiarization with and use of these and related resources.
The full-time teaching commitment is 20 hours of instruction per week with generous time allowances built into the timetable to facilitate effective preparation, marking, and report writing. The maximum class size is 12, which allows our students to benefit from more focused and personalised teaching. Teachers are expected to either be involved in pastoral care (tutoring of a small group) or supporting student clubs and co-curricular activities. The regular school week is from Monday to Friday, with occasional school events happening on weekends (e.g. open days, school trips) that teachers may be required to attend.
About you:
We are looking for creative teaching professionals with deep love of the written word. The desire to spark this same passion in your students should be the driving force of your vocation to educate others about literature. You should also be a highly effective communicator able to deliver premium lesson content for all of the British curriculum key stage examinations. The successful candidate will be a dynamic individual able to both inspire and widen students’ interests in English Literature and Language, as well as guiding them effectively in their preparations for both major internal and external exams.
Educational Qualifications:
